Accessibility engineering goes well beyond alt texts. It involves focus management in single-page applications, correct ARIA roles and attributes, keyboard navigation that covers edge cases, color contrast meeting WCAG AA or AAA, plain language content, and testing with actual screen readers like NVDA, JAWS, and VoiceOver.

Accessibility that actually works doesn’t emerge at the end of a project through retrofitting. It comes from decisions made in design, component architecture, page structure, and everyday development.
